The Winter League is fast approaching its halfway stage, with last Sunday marking the 8th event of the series and once again, it delivered competitive golf despite challenging winter conditions.
In frozen but fair weather, Anthony Smith (Mr Captain) produced the standout performance of the day, posting an excellent 40 points to top the leaderboard and claim the 1st prize & Old Original Meal credit of £40.00!
Reflecting on his round, Mr Captain said:
“It was great — I was hitting the ball miles, but it was a real test judging distances into the greens. It was actually very much great fun.”
Three shots behind, a tightly contested battle saw a three-way tie for the remaining podium places. Rick Fish edged second place to claim the rump steaks from Ogdens Butchers, while Matt Stuart secured third and walked away with a complimentary Callaway golf glove. Nikki Pimlott narrowly missed out on the prizes but deserves special mention for a gallant performance in such testing conditions.
At the top of the overall standings, the Winter League continues to be dominated by Sean Quarmby, who maintained his lead despite taking a well-earned week off. However, the gap at the summit has been trimmed to 17 points after Darren Brown submitted his seventh counting score of the series, keeping the title race very much alive as we head into the second half of the competition.
