Stamford Golf Club proudly recognises the remarkable dedication and lifelong commitment of long-standing member Peter Hankey, awarding him the prestigious title of Honorary Life Member.
Peter first joined the club in 1974, and throughout his 50 years of service, he has been a vital part of its development. His contributions extend beyond the fairways, having represented the Club Council as Greens Chairman and even stepping in to assist with clubhouse duties when needed.
A talented golfer, Peter maintained an impressive low handicap of 9.0 and secured three major titles. His most cherished victory came in the Vice Presidents Trophy, a grueling 36-hole competition played over a single day.
Peter’s leadership and dedication were recognised when he was invited by past captains to serve as Club Captain in 1988, an honour he holds dear. Fourteen years later, in 2002, he was further recognised by being appointed Club President.
Reflecting on his journey at Stamford Golf Club, Peter shared:
“I don’t have a single proud moment other than the simple decision to join this Club. I have too many memories that I will cherish forever, not forgetting the lifelong friends I’ve made along the way. This recognition means so much; I feel very proud and humbled.”
With this well-deserved Honorary Life Membership, Peter Hankey’s legacy at Stamford Golf Club is cemented for generations to come. His passion, service and dedication truly embody the spirit of the club.
