Tulip Sunday
In an attempt to grow this amazing game, we were offered the opportunity to exhibit at Stamford Park on Sunday, 26 April. The annual event organised by Staybridge and District Assembly and supported by New Charter Housing Trust, attracts thousands of locals to the annual event with several attractions all offering FREE of charge services to the public.
Myself & Assistant Pro Andy Earlam saw this as an opportunity to promote Stamford Golf Club and the game of golf in general and it was a huge success, gaining interest from lots of potential golfers. Our main objective was to make people aware of our existence and to show how approachable we are as a game & club.
If you know of any people who may show interest in the game of golf please send them our way.
Cornish festival
It was my 6th visit to Newquay in Cornwall this year and Stamford entered 3 teams in Britain's biggest Pro Am.
This year Assitant Pro Andy Earlam missed out on the opportunity due to Final Exams. Local Pro’s Grant Hamerton & Kris Andrews paired up with Stamford members as we set off down the south shores of the UK to play 3 of Britain's finest links.
The most successful story came from Professional Grant Hamerton and his 3 merry men, Paul Traynor, Tony Bowden & James Woodcock. From 114 teams they managed a very respectable 10th place, a best finish from any team effort in the 6 years I have entered.
On a personal note, my game suffered for several reasons and I’m not ashamed to publish the results from both the individual & teams, but I’m almost certain I will be returning next year for a better result.
On behalf of all three professionals, I would like to thank the amateurs who took part and I look forward to returning next year should you wish to join us.
Juniors – BMW Junior challenge
Congratulations to Stamford juniors in their attempt to regain the BMW Junior Challenge Trophy. Victory away at Hazel Grove in Round 1 sees the Stamford lads enter their names into the Round 2 draw which is yet to be made, but any win away from home is an added bonus. Well done boys!
Lowe Trophy
The first major of the season goes to Chris Houfe. Chris managed to post a 71 gross, minus his 5 handicap for a nett score of 66 which was 1 shot better than anyone else in the 141 man field could manage.
Runner up was Keith Dockerty with 73 – 6 = 67 and in 3rd place on a card play off was in-form Steve Finan finishing with 82 – 14 = 68.
Well done to all the winners and those who participated.
