Beginners Golf
Getting away from golf technique improvements and sales promotions, I would like to point out at Stamford Golf Club we have received numerous new membership applications. This is sign of the times, a sign that Golf has had its tough times but more and more people are learning to play this amazing game. If ever you have fancied giving it a go, now is the time to pick up the phone, contact us and allow us to offer you a FREE of charge introduction to the game.
Please don’t feel this is about hitting a golf ball a long way, nor is it about succeeding immediately. Golf as a game has so much to offer any individual, I can assure you if you are thinking about it, you will not regret it!
Brian Thomas says; “I visited all the local clubs in search for where I felt most comfortable. Stamford was the last club I visited, and I wish I’d never look elsewhere. The staff & members have made me extremely welcome from day one and the course is a pleasure to walk. I can see this being a lifelong affair.”
Ray Marland says; “Mark reassured me of his experience in coaching new golfers. i turned up for my first lesson and it was a huge relief. We spent most of the lesson chatting about how, what & why. It was easier than I ever thought. I just wish I’d done it when I was younger!”
Amie Ridgeway says; “I played when I was younger but only for a short while. I was tempted again by mark and took him up on his FREE first lesson on introduction to golf. Needless to say, I have booked again for the next two weeks and I’ve since made enquiries about joining. Bring on the summer”
Ben & Nat say; “We took lessons over 10 years ago from Mark when he worked at Ashton under Lyne Golf Club, unfortunately work commitments took president and golf was forgotten about. Recently I googled my old coach Mark Smith, to find he now works around the corner from my house in CarrBrook. Needless to say, I have booked in for lessons every week, and intend to join Stamford Golf Club this spring.”
If there is anyone you may know who would be interested in a FREE introduction lesson to Golf, please pass on this email for them to contact me. I am more than willing to come out with any enthusiast for 30 minutes in an attempt to give them the Golf Bug.
Mark Smith Golf Classic
Teams are filling fast in the Mark Smith Golf Classic. We are holding 2x shotgun starts, one which will commence at 09:15 and the second shotgun start will be 13:45.
Should you wish to reserve yourself a 4man team, please don’t hesitate to contact me here to reserve your space.
The event will promise a great day with good food, good prizes and potentially some good surprises in store. Don’t miss it!
Sunday winter league
The Sunday winter league is coming to a close. Feedback whether we should repeat the format through the summer season would be appreciated. Paul Traynor has sealed victory in the opening Winter League, with just one event remaining he leads by 21 points. That’s 1 point too many for nearest competitor Steve Finan to catch him.
Last Sunday's shop competition we received a new winner again, Mr Steve Moors totalled 41 points over 18 holes claiming first prize from second place Phil Ramsden who carded 40 points.
Pro Shop renovations
Please accept our apologies while we are in the process of a busy period around the pro shop. Annually at this time of year we receive deliveries from all of our supplier of all the new product. This has to follow a process from the minute it comes through the door. Received goods are checked, input into the computing system, priced up and displayed. That sounds simple, but as always we meet complications.
To really challenge ourselves we decided to lay some new carpet tiles today too, to enhance the shop image and be ready for the coming season.
Lockers
Recently there has been some developments with the Locker facility at Stamford Golf Club. We can confirm there are a small amount of lockers available for Hire at just £25 for 12 months. Should you require one, please email us here professional@stamfordgolfclub.co.uk or drop into the pro shop for more details.
Lombard Trophy
As described in a recent newsletter, the Lombard trophy is Europe's biggest Pro Am. Each club who enter will hold an internal qualifier amongst its members where the winning score will compete with the club professional at a chosen regional qualifier. From there, the leading pair will go to the final which is held at Gleneagles on the 1st & 2nd September.
Our regionally qualifier has been set and confirmed for Formby Golf Club on Tuesday 9th June. Formby is one of my all time favourite golf courses and the winning competitor who qualifies to compete with myself that day, is in for a real treat. The Stamford Golf Club qualifier will be held on Saturday 4th April. Best wishes to all who take part.
