Maiden victory
It’s a first time victory for new member Nick Rabbeth. The dental surgeon showed true grit coming down the stretch in his maiden Stamford Golf Club victory collecting 41 points along the way to clinch top spot by 1 point from in-form Winter League contender Iain Starkie.
Nick recently made a full change of equipment to the PING G30 range and it’s been only a matter of weeks to claim his first victory. Congratulations Nick, keep up the good form!
The top points this week went to runner up Iain Starkie in the winter league, helping him narrow the gap at the top of the league to just 18 points and put him in touching distance of top spot.
The introduction of a Sunday Winter League this year has grabbed the attention of many members, developed a lot of interest and created some good banter along the way. It has given winter golf a purpose and we hope this can continue into next winter 2015.
Are we seriously looking forward to next winter?!
Helping you enjoy better golf this year
Most of you will be familiar with the survey we ran last year to try and help us improve the service we offer you, and we had some interesting feedback. These results brought to mind the saying, 'A bad workman always blames his tools'. There's a certain amount of truth in this saying, but when it comes to golf, there may be more to it…not that we're saying you're bad golfers, because what we're about to say applies to players of all abilities.
For example, we discovered that nearly half of you haven't been fitted for your irons. Not bad tools, just not the right shafts for you, perhaps? Similarly, we can say with some certainly that 50% of you have a gap in your wedge system. Again, the wedges themselves may be fine, but if you haven't got the right ones for the distances and shot types you're attempting, you'll encounter problems, even if you do have a fantastic short game.
We'll be bringing you more over the coming months on the results from the survey with lots of advice and tips on how we can help, so look out for this graphic. The survey was intended to help us understand your game even more, and if we can do that then better golf is just around the corner - and no more blaming your tools.
