Bad news for Golf around Manchester..
Much to my surprise this week I have learnt that Cranford Driving Range is closing its doors for business from 31st October 2014. The majority of us will have passed through this place at some time or other, and if you feel anything like me, it's most upsetting. You can read more here.
This means the night golf classes scheduled to start on 21st October for 6 consecutive weeks are on hold until further notice. I am trying to strike an agreement with another driving range within a similar distance. I will keep those informed who have reserved their places.
The most expensive golf bags in the world..
Yes you’ve read it correctly, the most expensive golf bags in the world have landed right here at Stamford Golf Club. In actual fact, there are 2 of them and they belong to prize winners Danny Fox & Steve Finan. The pair managed to collect their first prize in the Manchester alliance on Wednesday at Reddish Vale Golf Club. It would have been approximately their 100th attempt after competing every week for the last 4 years. The fixtures feature an offering every week, and have around 25 competitions each year. This means the bags have worked out at around £1500 each plus expenses. The pair said “it’s been great value for money, nobody will ever understand the value of the bags to us”.
Splendid chaps, a pleasure to see.
Golf Ball found..
There has been a Titleist Pro V 1 golf ball found stuck up a tree in a very peculiar location, just of the 9th tee on the left. We cannot work out how this ball could have come to rest in such location, although with the initials SJF printed on the side, we are hoping we can find its rightful owner who will give us an explanation.
If you are aware of any member who plays the most expensive ball in golf, with his initials SJF printed on the side, would you please inform us.
Singles Matchplay champion
Congratulations to Kack Handed Kev Duffy. The low handicapper made easy work of the final against Tony Hales with a convincing victory of 11&9. The 36 hole final reached the 27th hole when Duffy managed to claim his 11th hole leaving only 9 holes to play.
A huge congratulations to both players for reaching the final with particular congratulations to Kevin on his 3rd Major for 2014 and his 4th Major in total at Stamford Golf Club.
