Recently, you may have seen a few requests in our weekly emails asking you to create your golfing profile or confirm your email address for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) purposes.

As you might be aware, GDPR is new legislation coming into effect at the end of May, so we are taking the opportunity now to update your details. Not only does this give us the chance to confirm that we have your correct information, but it also provides us with the ability to personalise your weekly emails to suit your golfing preferences. The Season is here!

Well, well, well, who would’ve thought Patrick Reed would’ve held his nerve in the final round of 2018 Masters. An incredible comeback from Spieth and a gallant effort from Fowler, but It was Reed who managed to get me to fall asleep with his predictable anti-climax finish. I think I was spoilt in 2017 to be fair!

However, that’s irrelevant. The most important point here is the 2018 golf season is right here!! If you’re a fair weather player and you have managed to bring yourself to open this email, this is que to unbury your bats, check your golf shoes for spiders and get down to SGC for the best season yet. Just 9 days to the first major of the season, The Lowe Trophy.

After the most brutal winter I have experienced in the industry I am extremely pleased to have received the news from the greens chairman that the fairway mat rule will be rescinded from Friday, the 13th of April. The course has taken much stress from the adverse weather but this image was taken on Wednesday 11th April, showing our Green Keeping team are doing a fine job presenting the course.

Form at the right time!

Congratulations last weekend to new comer Tommy Glover. Without doubt the greatest golf score I’ve ever reported with 53 points in a singles competition... with a blob dare I mention it.

Greens Chairman Iain Starkie managed 47 points the following day to claim the shop competition victory, but more importantly these guys have hit form just in time as the first major draws closer.

No penalty

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not.

Current Rules
Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1).

New Rules from 2019
The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot.
