Competition news

JD Schofield Trophy

Another weekend, another major for Stamford legend Andy Bent and a first time major win for cousin Phil Easter. Scratch golfer Andy, currently playing off an exact handicap of 0.3 managed what he believes to be his 23rd major trophy at Stamford Golf Club, with cousin Phil getting the monkey off his back to add his name amongst the rest of his golfing family in the clubhouse. The joint effort to win the JD Schofield trophy last weekend after a reasonably joint effort was a matter of a card play-off from three other pairings.

Winners

The JD Schofield trophy is played for annually in a pairs, bogey format. The format better known as matchplay against the course. Phil & Andy were matched by Mick Shockledge & Bob Oag, Kev Duffy & Martyn Dwyer and Jamie & James Hughes. All three pairs managed to finish 10up against the course with Phil & Andy claiming top spot on a card playoff.

1st place - Andy Bent & Phil Easter + 10up (Winners)

2nd place - Bob Oag & Mick Shockledge + 10up

3rd place - Kevin Duffy & Martin Dwyer + 10up

4th place - Jamie & James Hughes + 10up


Coaching news

Junior Golf classes

It’s been a successful year so far on the junior golf front. The Monday classes have run the full length of the golfing season, but with the dark nights drawing in, they’re very limited going forward. Monday evening saw another successful turn out from the youngsters, with some extremely interesting potential turning out.

2018 is setting itself up to be a very interesting year, when these little rippers are little bit taller and the ball starts travelling a little bit further. On a negative note, that means I’ve got further to walk on a Monday evening to collect the balls. However, it’s worth it!

Keep your ball in play

If you struggle to keep your drives on the short stuff then it’s probably about time you looked at improving this area of your game. Feeling confident when standing over a tee shot is crucial to hitting a good drive and that’s where we come in.

You might be surprised that there isn’t a bigger difference between the stats in this graph. The real difference comes when you look at how far offline the misses finish.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out hitting it straighter will reduce lost balls and increase your chance of making pars, which is why we highly recommend having a driver you’re confident in and one that’s set-up to counter your most common bad shot.

Layer up, winter's coming
