Saddleworth Pro-am Somehow, through a pair of tired eyes, a disfunctional brain and a rusty golf swing, I managed to turn out a first place this week. The Saddleworth Golf Club annual PGA Pro-am attracts professional golfers from across the region to compete for the reasonable prize pot. In support of ex member & assistant professional Andy Earlam, my team chose to offer our support and across we went. Greeted with a bad start on arrival we were directed to the 9th tee for a shot gun start. It wouldn’t surprise me if that tee was in a different county to the clubhouse, and of course Andy told me with a smile on his face. Being ever the optimist, a par start followed by a birdie and 16 holes later I carded a flawless round of 69 including 16 pars and 2 birdies. Unbeaten by any of the other professionals, I managed to tie for 1st place alongside euro tour professional Phil Kelly and European tour professional Phil Archer. My thanks that day went to my three team members Steve Finan, Paul Traynor and Will Fox. Three absolute gentlemen who offer none stop continued support. |
