Irving, Irving & Irving
It has been a weekend about one man really, that being Mr Rick Irving. It all began 4 weeks ago when the original Rawson Cup & Gold Medal was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, when that event was rescheduled to take place last weekend. Originally the leading score was posted by Bob Irving with a nett 66. That score was standing at the top of the leader board earning Bob both the Rawson Cup & Gold medal, until nature took its course and the electrical storm caused the handicaps committee no other option than to rearrange the event.
Not such bad news for brother Rick Irving though. Rick took great pleasure in posting a career low score of 67 gross playing off a handicap of 6 for a nett 61. Followed in shortly after by brother Bob, who once again posted a nett 66 matching his original score.
Rick’s 61 earned himself top spot in both majors, the Rawson Cup & Gold Medal, winning him 2 majors in one round of golf. It didn’t end there either, as his gross score of 67 wasn’t bettered by any golfer in the field… even myself, which collected him the best gross prize!
And if all of that isn’t enough, read on….
The very following day was our Festival AmAm attracting 32 teams of 4 from across the Manchester area. The format being best 2 scores to count from all 4 players. Once again topping the leader board was the man himself, Mr Rick Irving, along with playing partners Alex Martin, brother Bob Irving & Carl Varey. We could call him a bandit although at a handicap of 5 it's very difficult to justify that. I guess he’s just a good golfer hey!
Congrats Rick… Great member, Great Golfer, Great Guy!
Seniors Memorial Trophy
Alan Johnson this time. Johnson being spelt with no T, not getting them mixed up, or otherwise known as the left handed Alan Johnson. Once again another stunning score put together of 46 points! To claim first prize in the seniors memorial trophy. I can’t help but notice that both the above prize winners BOTH attended the evening winter golf classes, and it would appear the work is paying off.
Congratulations Alan for a splendid score, bettering your handicap by 10 shots is quite outstanding.
