Lombard Trophy Qualifier
This year I have reluctantly & significantly reduced my playing calendar due to work commitments, and of course our family is about to increase by one. That in mind, it was mixed emotions for me on the build up to the Lombard trophy regional qualifier with playing partner Andy Angelone.
The regional final each year almost certainly returns an extremely low score and I felt this could be our year, with Angelone receiving 14 shots and a ball flight with more venom than an adder, I was almost certain it was our turn for a trip to the finals. That all felt realistic approaching the first green, after my approach sat 10ft from the hole and Angelone was on the dance floor with a shot, the perfect start. 6 putts later and we were stood on the second tee with our chins touching our chest. Another shot later and I owned one ball less than I started with. The winning mentality soon turned to the two course meal on completion of the round.
Andy closed out his round and expressed his delight in taking part, the experience he gained and how he was looking forward to hopefully qualifying again in 2018. On my behalf Andy, thanks for a great game and I'll look forward to working with you over the coming months.
Up for a putting challenge?
In July we will be holding a putting competition around five holes of the putting green. There is small print and there is a fee, but there is also some bragging rights and a fantastic £170 putter up for grabs. For more details contact us in the shop, or keep your eyes peeled around the putting green where you will be sure to see the promotions.
Hole In One Alert
This time it was David Mills who holed out on the 16th hole, after his playing partner mentioned that the shot never left the flag. After searching around the green, Dave peered into the cup as he strolled across the green to notice the ball sitting exactly where he aimed it.
Congratulations Dave, mine is a double JD on ice!!
Open festival AmAm
Originating from the Festival week that once existed, the AmAm was the 4 man team event that capped the week off on the Sunday. Now standing alone as the other events through the week have sadly dissolved, the AmAm seems to attract good numbers and tough competition and stands proud to the day in the yearly calendar.
Taking full advantage of the format and clear winners by one point were home players Bob Oag, Mick Shockledge, Chris Lees and Andy Blanchflower. Runners up were four visitors from North Manchester who specifically called me the following day to thank me for a great day. They mentioned a well presented event with a special mention for the green keeper who presented the best greens they had putted on all year. It's those phone calls that put a spring in your step as a member of staff, as it's nice to be appreciated. That very player had played in 2 British Opens and has one of the best amateur records in the North, all adding to the value of his compliments.
Congratulations to the winners.
