72 Not Out

David Pegg joined us 12 years ago. His first commitment to a golf club and he's never looked away. Taking up the game at 60 years old, who would've predicted the future that lied ahead. David's intentions were to play golf, help his fitness and generally make friends. 12 years down the line and Dave has secured 3 Major titles, of which his latest being the Rawson Cup last weekend.

Tough conditions faced the majority of the field with the morning players receiving the best conditions. Pegg, who teed off in the height of the blustery conditions at 11:00, somehow negotiated his golf ball around the bouncy links in 84 blows. Playing off a handicap of 18, his nett 66 was good enough by 2 clear shots from runner up Pete Jackson. It was early players Mike Nelson & Roger Harrop who set the pace early doors both netting 69 only to finish in 3rd place.

I struggle to believe the impact on scoring recently, particularly since the course has been played from the Pond as the first hole. We have received one outstanding score of 63 from Stuart Mulvaney and Martin Dwyer who posted a nett 66 the same day. Then last weekend Dave Pegg topped the leaderboard with a 66. Standard scratch has increased every week and I believe winning has become an opportunity for the majority of the field. Dave Pegg at 72 years old wins his third major and off the back of that here's what he had to say;

"Mark, I would like you to know something. Do you remember giving me some advice in your swing room approximately 2 months ago? I still swing the club with that in mind, and I believe my win was a result of that work".

Dave, you'll do for me my friend. Go smash another major this season pal!

Super 6

Remember us setting up a Sky Sports super 6 league this football season? It was back in August when it all kicked off, a league password was released via newsletters and direct emails. We managed to attract 43 entries and what a great idea it was from Dave Mulvey. The idea was to guess 6 selected football scores each weekend, where points would be awarded for the correct result or correct score. Those points formed a league and play became a little competitive. Even down in 17th place I never missed a week, I was eager to jump above those in front of me. Yet we aim to make next season more interesting.

Congratulations this season to Dave Thurstan, ultimately unstoppable out in first place. It was more interesting around 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th place. Chris Holloway managed to hold on to 2nd place thanks to Swansea beating West Brom in the last five minutes of their season from Dave Allman who finished 3rd.

Congratulations chaps and here's to next footballing season. Bring it on!

Team Matches

No A or B team matches to report due to it being Cup match week and both teams had received a bye through to the next round. The Rabbits however did play their league match, away at Dukinfield and managed a 4/4 draw on away soil. A great effort, but they must take advantage of the home draw this week to capitalise on this weeks' result. Good luck gents!
