A Hard Week
Possibly the most difficult sentence I've ever had to put together. Monday evening was no different to me than any other. I was chilling watching the TV when I caught a glimpse of a social media update of a possible explosion at the MEN arena. The outcome was what we all know.
On behalf of the members of Stamford Golf Club, we lower our flag to half mast and send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. RIP to the beautiful Brits that lost their lives to a coward.
We also send our condolences to the Gill family, following the loss of Colin Gill. Colin’s funeral detail will be posted around the club in due course.
Club Teams Update
A tremendous win for the Rabbits this week as they took down Oldham Golf Club with a 6/2 victory. Of that victory, it was Dave Mills that stole the show in just his 3rd match for the team. He was alongside playing partner Julian Davidson as they mauled their playing partners 9&8. That would otherwise be known as an Early Bath! Congratulations guys, keep up the good form!
Both our A&B team this week received a bye in the cup.
Wednesday 12 Hole Stablefords
Following the 4th Wednesday 12 hole stableford of the season, we have yet another winner. Richard Margrave ties top of the shop with Jamie Chadwick, carding a better back 6 holes and he manages to secure the first prize.
Scoring was interesting with no confirmation of existing league standings for the Wednesday league. All will be revealed very soon which should provide for a nail biting midweek league table.
Next Wednesday is our final 12 hole stableford of the first half of the Wednesday league qualifiers. The following week will be real golf off the white blocks, 18 holes and qualifying; a great opportunity for those who struggle to get qualifying rounds of golf in for their handicap.
All 6's - 3 Man Team
It's always an interesting one for us this because we regularly receive last minute panic phone calls as team members drop out, potentially ruining a game of golf for two other hopefuls. On this occasion, I was sat at home one evening when Ireceived a message via my facebook account. It read:
"Mark, we have had a drop out of our team on Saturday and I've noticed you have been attracting new members to the club recently. If we can take one of them under our wing on Saturday, feel free to introduce them to our team and we'll show them around the club for you".
Russell Lodge, Mick & Dave Cheadle and Ray Booth, I take my hat off to you. Andy Swift had a great game, finishing with 85 points, losing the competition by one point. Great attitude and great golf!
Success Stories
Dave Roberts was passing my shop last week. He left the course looking rather flush. "How are you Dave, Good game"? He replied with a low tone, head slumped and explained how he has suffered with the shanks for 10 years, but they're as bad now as they've ever been. Experiencing sometimes 2 shanks per hole and it's really affecting his love for the game. I invited him into the swing room and we spent around 15 minutes discussing technique. Dave left with a different takeaway.
On Monday this week, Dave called into the shop with his playing partner. He'd played 18 holes without a shank and he was absolutely delighted. Congratulations Dave, I'll forward to my pint!
Vince Whelan had lost distance over a long period, and slowly accepted it. That coupled with a deteriorating short game meant it was time for a lesson. Vince had spent around 90 minutes in golf lessons and this week topped the Tuesday roll up with 44 single stableford points. His best score for an age. Congratulations Vince.
The success stories keep me motivated. I would like to remind serious golfers of my monthly lesson development plan. For more information please contact me in the professional shop where I will be pleased to explain how i can help you achieve better scores.
