Hello golfers,
Rick Irving - Man Of The Month
It's a headline that I couldn't deny him. If this has happened before, it certainly hasn't happened much. Rick Irving is a five time major winner, seven time monthly medal winner and a back-to-back winner! This time Rick won his division in the May monthly medal, denying Phil Hudson by one stroke. The man in form didn't only win his division, no man in the 112 man field touched his score which includes division 2 and 3. His last three gross scores 70, 72 and72 in some of the toughest conditions I've witnessed while I've been here in 10 years are scores a professional would produce. With the electric greens and firm-running fairways, something tells me Rick is taking full advantage of the extra 25 yards off the tee! Producing some of the best golf of his career to date, Rick's new handicap has earned him the right to play this coming Sunday in the Dunham Forest clash away at Chorley Golf Club.
Mark Smith Golf Classic
The day was absolutely blessed with the weather but possibly a week early in terms of growth around the golf course. I'm having to rest my wrist at the moment from a sprained injury, so I haven't managed to take advantage of the dry conditions. However, the rumours in the Pro Shop suggest the course is playing extremely fast. That said, it was an impressive 92 points that took pole position on Sunday.
Visiting party of Lewis Marland (Brookdale Golf Club President), Neale Laurent, Chris Clough and Gareth Winston (Dukinfield GC) claimed their first victory as repeat competitors in the event.
Runners up: Tom Harrop, Tim Craig & T. Schofield - 89 points 3rd place: Dave Cheadle, Mick Cheadle & Russell Lodge - 88 points 4th place: D. Marsh, P. Dove, P. McFarlane & P. Goodeve - 87 points
Team Raffle: Mail Minion - Graham Hampson (4 bottle of Smithy's favourite Red)
For those who took part, I would like to offer my sincere thanks for your continued support. The green keepers and catering staff provided yet another flawless service, not forgetting our ladies section for their voluntary support with the scoring. On a similar note, the ladies did ask me to mention an impressive £150 was generated from the clubhouse raffle for Macmillan Cancer.
Stamford A
In their opening match of the season, Captain Kevin Duffy and his team managed to collect 3 precious points on away soil at Brookdale Golf Club. The match went down as a 5-3 loss, but those three points could be precious come the end of the season.
Stamford B
The team took full advantage with a 7-1 win on home ground against Brookdale Golf Club. A flying start from Paul Traynor and his merry men, but can they keep it up this week as the B team makes their way to Werneth for their second clash of the season.
Rabbits
Second week in to the season and Stamford Rabbits have faced Ashton Golf Club on both home and away soil. Julian Davidson captained the team as they went down 5-3 on unfamiliar ground, but they soon got their own back after a 5-3 victory this week at home.
