Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.

Course Conditions
It is reported the recent inclement weather conditions has taken its toll on the golf course. Our Green's Chairman has introduced "fairway mats through the green". The meaning of "through the green" suggests all play on the golf course (including the rough and deep rough) must be from a mat, except when in a hazard or on a putting green.
Winter League - Week 15
Tough conditions as explained above, Winter League week 15 was a tough test to say the least. This season we have witnessed scores as high as 48 in the single stableford format, this week however was a little different. Four scores tied on 40 points, with Winter League finding yet another winner for the series. Garry Foster carded a solid 19 points on the outward nine holes, to return in 21 points and claim first place.
Maybe it was his fortune, as Bob Irving was stood on the 17th Tee with 39 points, only to finish with a double bogey seven on the 17th and a blob on his final hole. Not only did that cost Bob the competition, but it he carded the worst back nine of the four scores to finish outside the prizes too. It wasn't all doom and gloom, as Bob did pick up some ground in the winter league with his very respectable score. Runner up to Garry was Chris Easter with a matching back nine, but it was his back six holes that cost him the competition by one point. Third place was Dave Burns, who picked up enough shop credit to climb to the top of the money list for the winter series, collecting a seasonal total of £108.50 and currently sitting in striking distance of the lead.
It's all to play for, with two weeks remaining in this seasons popular Winter League… weather permitting remember guys.
Saturday Three Man Texas Scramble
A fun competition of which many don't feel attracted to on paper, however, once out there competing in a Texas Scramble do you realise the fun. Familiar names came out on top, Tommy Taylor, Steve Moores and Brian Thomas all avoiding a handicap drop due to the format, but it hasn't gone unnoticed gentlemen. In second place, was new members Ryan and Ian Mayes who have very recently joined us from Blackley Golf Club, so welcome aboard gentlemen, and their third man in the team was Pete Grogan, another relatively new member. It's such a good sight to see these people getting involved.
I maybe a little bias with this one, but one of my favourite reports this week was learning how another relatively new member Mike Liddle had finished amongst the prizes. This chap is one of the most frustrating and determined members we have. As well as towering amongst the biggest members at Stamford too, giving the frustrated giant a lesson is no easy feat, let me tell you. Mike's drive and will to succeed, is the reason I am proud that his eagle putt on the 17th hole found the cup, taking his team Simon Reynolds and Mark Bridge into third place in the Texas Scramble. Mike came straight into the pro shop with the biggest smile and gave the biggest fist pump I have ever seen. Congratulations.
