Yes we've chatted much about the Winter League and for those not involved I apologise for all these updates, like we're making it out to be a big thing, like its actually made winter golf interesting. Well for me, it has, even on my day off (Sundays) I log in to the online software to keep an eye on progress. I literally sit on the edge of my seat as I scroll through the scores, who's leading, who's scoring under pressure, who may be the dark horse and so on.
For clarity, the best eight Winter League scores for each player are what forms the league table. With over 50% of the field having reached their maximum games, the scoreboard is now taking shape. Kev Barber top's the list followed by Chris Exton just one single point adrift and Steve Moores in third place by one point. That means the Yellow Jersey has jumped backs from Mr. Steve Moores to our new holder Kevin Barber.
Week 10
A huge week for two hardened winter golfers, Chris Exton carded his second win of the Winter league season, the first man to win two competitions this season and he did it with the same score, 44 points.
The same day we had our first Hole in one from Regan Glaister on the 4th hole. Regan displayed a bottle of whiskey on the bar for his pals in the true tradition of the game. Congratulations to both players, and thank you for the interesting news. Keep up the good form.
Captain's vs President's Competition
The second attempt at playing the Captains and Presidents looked doubtful yet again as another rain storm passed on Saturday, 28 January. Fortunately the Shot Gun start matchplay competition was set to start at 13:00pm giving the weather time to clear up. This tradition is played in January each season, consisting of two teams hand selected by the Captain and President themselves. The losing team pay for supper, it's a simple as that. You could win your match but lose as a team. That's the game.
Personally I was given a friendly draw with playing partner Garry Foster, we were drawn against two of my lesson pupils Paul Rodgers and Paul Barlow. Our game went to the very last hole resulting in a halved match and ½ a point went to either side. It was the best I could do giving so many shots, but congratulations to both Pauls on a great performance, and a particular thanks to my playing partner Garry. The president however, picked a losing team, harsh but true. Congratulations to Mr. Captain on the day, I hope you enjoyed your much deserved (free of charge) Supper.

MOT your clubs
This week I have given my clubs a good servicing, lofts and lies checked and amended where necessary, cleaned grips and given myself another gapping session on the GC2 launch monitor ready for the coming season. It's the perfect time of year to make any amendments to your clubs. One gentleman came in the shop this week for a new grip on his wedge, he coincidentally hit a few balls in the swing room, to which I noticed an imbalance in the setup of his wedge. That was rectified, a new grip was applied and he proceeded to have his full bag checked. For a very affordable fee of just £3.50 per club, its a service that comes highly recommended.
