Five weeks in and already we have seen 3 different names at the top of the Winter League leader board. We have seen 5 different weekly winners Alex Martin, Phil Ramsden, Chris Houfe, Wayne Morris & just recently Dave Burns. 

I think the new handicapping system is proving its worth, helping to create a level playing field as this years' Winter League is wide open. The Handicap Chairman Chris Akers has made a total of 50 fractional reductions affecting the playing handicap of 27 players by at least 1 shot and in some cases players have lost as many as 3 shots. 

Having been under the knife recently I've been restricted to the limits of the Shop door for the last week. The gossip around the shop suggests the condition of the golf course is as good as it's ever been considering the time of the year. All thanks to Mick Shockledge (Green Chairman), head Green Keeper John Pierrpoint and his team John, Steven & Gaz. Keep up the good work lads! 




Vice-Captain Elect 

Last week we discussed the possible nominations for captain elect. The true tradition which is to be announced on Christmas day at 12:30. The process began in mid-November where the past captains have an organised get together and discussions are made for the chosen one. Last week I asked for your thoughts on the incoming Vice Captain elect and I promised you the results; 

Chris Akers 50% 
Malcolm Wrigley 10% 
Vince Whelan 20% 
Martin Dwyer 20% 

It would appear the members thoughts are clearly Chris Akers but we have had many surprises in the past and we will have to wait until 25th to find out the decision. 




Members Turkey Shoot 3rd December 

The rescheduled members Turkey Shoot was a success this time around following the adverse weather conditions on 19th December. Paul Brown & playing partner Anthony Sharples walked away with the biggest bird carding 34 points, nosing Rick Irving & Alex Martin out on a Card play-off. As there were 15 prizes up for grabs and the traditional prize giving method "you have to be there to claim your prize". Prize giving went down to 30 points! 

Winners: Paul Brown & Anthony Sharples - 34 points 
Runner Up: Alex Martin & Rick Irving - 34 points 
3rd place: Chris Bates & Chris Hawke - 32 points 

Christmas Cracker 

This is a final reminder of the Christmas Cracker scheduled to be played this Sunday. The 09:00 Shot Gun start is a betterball format over 12 holes, and it kicks off a great day. Following the golf is a Brass Band in the clubhouse followed by a quick visit from Santa Claus (available to members and immediate family). If you're considering visiting, please do inform us so we don't fall short on surprises for the wee ones.
