Let's just spare a moment for the unfortunate people affected by the devastating floods in Stalybridge. We see these stories in the news and never do we think this could happen on our very own door step. Monday evening It was and I was here giving an evening lesson at 18:00 when the down pour was it its peak. It took two of us armed with a brush each and towels to deflect the water onto a different route and avoid the shop & Swing room from flooding. Thankfully we wasn't affected but it could've been a very different story. My thoughts are with the families affected.
On a different note let's talk golf... and some extremely good golf indeed!
Chris Houfe stole the lime light on Sunday, particularly after the snow fall caused disruptions on Saturday and no golf was played. He carded a 69 gross for 42 stableford points playing off a handicap of in the winter league week 3. That has placed Chris nicely in 14th position having only entered 2 scores from a possible three. With a game in hand Chris is in striking distance of the lead. Runner up once again was Brian Thomas losing on a card playoff to Chris Houfe with another 42 points. The consistency this man is displaying is the reason he sits comfortably at the top of the Winter League leaderboard, but can he hold on to it or will history repeat itself?!
Back to Basics
The most common injury for golfers remains back pain. But did you know there is a big difference between Amateur and Professional golfers? Who do you think puts their backs under more strain? The 300+ yard professional, or the amateur who struggles to drive the ball over 200 yards?
The answer, you may find surprising, is amateurs. Amateurs produce up to 80% more lateral strain than professionals, one research article found. Which means we bend side to side more. We also produce more torque, which means twisting strain. We generate more strain, for less power. Basically, we all have swing faults. And these faults are causing excess strain on our backs. Correct the faults, and reduce the strain.
So, this is the message this week. A golf lesson could help your back pain. And it should help your game. And that makes it great value for money.
