10 Years = 20% OFF

They say time flies when you're having fun, and I can certainly vouch for that. 10 years ago to the day on Saturday (Goodbye Summer) was my first day as Head Professional here at Stamford Golf Club. Opening my business with just £500 and no idea what I was doing, 10 years on and I'm sat here in the living room of my own home, beside my beautiful wife Clare and our amazing daughter Olivia as I write my weekly newsletter. 

Initially I was told that Stamford would make a great stepping stone club for bigger things. That I would last no more than 2-3 years before bigger things would arise. 10 years on and I am Head PGA professional & Director of Golf at the same club with some magical ideas for the next 10 years. 

I have made some amazing friends and I can honestly say not one enemy. The people of Stamford Golf Club are amazingly true, genuine, honest people and I appreciate working with every one of you. 

With this in mind, on Saturday (Goodbye Summer) the club have agreed to make the Stableford competition a single division with prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd plus a further 10 x £10.00 shop voucher prizes for the next 10 places. To qualify, you must be at the presentation at 18:00 otherwise the voucher will be offered to the next place. Furthermore, please join me on the 7th hole for a Pork Pie and allow me to personally say thanks for the best ten years I could've hoped for. 

Any member who takes part on Saturday will qualify for 20% discount off any* stock item on Saturday 29th September.

Don't forget this Sunday is the opening round of the Winter League. As per the email I sent out, your best 10 stableford scores from potentially 20 rounds will count. Entry is just £10 with 100% of winnings being paid out on the league entries and weekly entries.

It had been a while, but it was fantastic to see Padraig Harrington win again on the European Tour, his first Tour title for eight years at the weekend's Portugal Masters. 

He's won three Majors of course, but you could tell this one meant a lot, and his gritty up-and-down at the final hole summed up what he's all about. 

"It's a big win," said the 45-year-old. "I tried to be really aggressive. The golf course really suited me and I just tried to go after every pin I could. 

"I have a pretty good short game that was on form this week. No matter where I hit it, I felt like I could get it up and down." 

That short game helped him get to 23 under par, but it was his chip on the 18th that secured the title after his final approach had cannoned into the grandstands. 

The impressive Andy Sullivan watched on with interest - as a playoff looked on the cards - but the Irishman's chip to five feet was right out of the top drawer, and he cleaned up for the win. 

The moral of the story? Hard work and perseverance pays off! Well done Padraig.
