Rabbits AGM 

As the season has come to a close the Rabbits Team have been enjoying their annual end of year Annual General Meeting. The gathering is an annual meeting which involves a presentation for Rabbits player of the year, at the same time as electing the Rabbits captain for 2017. The latter being decided by the result of the competition itself. 

Rabbits Player of the Year for 2016 went to Colin Kershaw, while Kevin Brown was the player on the day and the newly crowned Rabbits Captain for 2017.


 

It's finally here, just one week to go! Get your entries in fast for the Winter League for just £10.00. This year we have made multiple changes to the Winter League in order to make it a fairer test across the season. Rather than an accumulation of all your scores, this year we are asking for 50% of the qualifying events played with the winner receiving £250.00* Pro Shop Credit! Based on a minimum 40 entries. 

The number of qualifying events currently stand at 20, beginning on Sunday 30th October and the final event played on Sunday 19th March 2017. Of which all will be 18 holes Stableford with 100% pay out of the entry fees. From those 20 weeks, the league will be compiled from your best 10 Scores (50%). In the event of us losing events due to adverse weather, we will take your best 50% of scores from the events we stage. For example, if 16 events are played, the Winter League will be contested from your best 8 scores. If 15 events are played, the Winter League will be contested from your best 8 scores (rounded upwards in the event of an odd number of events played). 

Finally, Bonus league points are available for the Winter Knock-Out. In addition to the qualifying Stablefords, we will be honouring 1 league point for every round you progress through in the winter Knock-Out. Regardless whether your opposition are in the League or not. 

Both the winter league & Winter KO will be played using the new Winter Handicapping system as emailed out on Monday 17th October. 

You can enter the winter league by simply responding to this email professional@stamfordgolfclub.co.uk and I will collect the £10 entry from you when we next meet. 

Last year our eventual winner was Paul Traynor for the second time in as many years. Paul accumulated £485.00 over the winter league period, and you could too!

Physio column - Laughter isn't the best medicine 

"Golf makes you happy". That's the latest medical journal headline. 

Clearly, the researchers haven't spent a Saturday morning with me. I'm usually far from happy. And looking around me I usually see a collection of other golfers looking far from happy too. I often hear a few less than happy exclamations too. 

But we are not talking about happiness during the round. We are talking about feelings of wellbeing. And feelings of wellbeing rely on certain factors; 

The Great Outdoors (or ecotherapy as it's becoming known), socialising, concentration and exercise. Golf gives you all of these, and is why it's hitting the headlines as being good for your mental, as well as physical, health. 

Turns out that laughter isn't the best medicine. Golf is!
