Pro Shop assistant Taylor Yates was up to his usual tricks again on Saturday when he opened up his score card with Birdie, Birdie, eagle to go 3up after 3 with playing partner Chris Easter. Chris put his mark on the card on 4 & 5 which gave the pair good foundations to develop that score into 12 up!! Needless to say it was untouched and Chris Easter won his first major in the JD Schofield trophy. Not forgetting second place, brothers Ant & John Healey managed 10 up only to fall shot by two.
Gents Open
It was quite a remarkable weekend for Open Golf at Stamford last weekend. As summer has now officially passed and autumn is upon us, it was time for the Gents Betterball Open. Initially we had Brian Thomas carding 46 points all by himself... well maybe his playing partner helped him put a few flags back on the last 12 holes, but apart from that Brian had the game of his life! Sadly for Brian it wasn't quite enough as the Easter brothers stole the limelight over the weekend.
Sunday (Gents Open) was Phil's day. The eldest brother holed out on our 167 yard par 3 - 16th hole with a 5 iron to help him and playing partner Roy Sidebottom to 47 points, to claim the Autumn Open by a single point from Brian Thomas.
Physio corner - What a pain
A question I get asked a lot is "which painkiller should I take?" There are a few things that are worth bearing in mind when reaching for the drugs cupboard. Effectively, there are 2 types of pain. Inflammatory pain and mechanical pain. Inflammatory pain is achy. It stops you getting comfortable. It makes you feel stiff when you have been sat down for too long, or first get up in the morning. Inflammatory pain responds better to anti-inflammatories (as if you couldn't guess) and the more popular ones are ibuprofen, volterol (diclofenac), and naproxen. And they come in creams, which can be really good.
Mechanical pain is there when you do something and goes away when you don't. If you can say "It hurts when I do this" then its mechanical pain. Mechanical pain responds better to the "analgesic" painkillers. And that's your paracetamol, Solpadine, anodal, co-codamol, codeine. To name a few. Choose wisely, and get the best results.
Disclaimer: Drugs have side effects, and these are different for everyone. Therefore you should always ask a pharmacist before buying a drug you haven't used before. Anti-inflammatories in particular can be nasty if you have certain other medical conditions.
