PGA Fourball Championships
It’s a long road and a tough old school but the PGA Fourball championships is potentially my favourite event of the year. I get to stride the fairways with my pal and hopefully dovetail for a good score. Well that is our intentions, however, we do end up striding alternative fairways frequently.
Having qualified for the national finals with playing partner Andy Earlam at Woodsome Hall Golf Club, it was a trip to the other side of Cheshire, Carden Park. Up against some tough skills & full time players, our work was cut out. As I write this, we have finished round 1 of the 54 hole competition, with a chance of making the 36 hole cut tomorrow all being well.

Youthful progress
There have been a multitude of success stories from our youths at Stamford over the period that I have been affiliated to the club. And it doesn’t take much for me to advertise the progress and development these young people are making in the game.
This bringing me to my latest news from James Kempster & Archie Palmer who have developed their games from their earliest stages right here at SGC.
On their journey to greater success, both players felt it would be beneficial to join another club (Bramhall Golf Club), to help them develop their shot making and overall game.
In just their first attempt at the Bramhall Golf Club 36 hole Scratch championships (Club championships), James shot 73 in the first round & 71 in the second round. Archie Opened with 69 and backed that up with a second round 74 to tie with James alone at the top of the leader board. Two Stamford lads topping the table at another club.
The outcome was a four hole play-off which found no winner. It was James kempster on the 41st hole making birdie to claim his first Club Championship.
A tremendous effort from both young men, making everyone at Stamford very proud.
