Major Win
It may be a week late but it makes good reading. Jamie Chadwick put in the time and effort through the winter months and he's now reaping the rewards. Beginning the year off an exact handicap of 3.9, Jamie's handicap has reduced to just 3.2, his new personal best and he's gained himself his first major along the way by carding 12 pars, 3 bogies, 1 birdie and 1 eagle along the way.
Coincidently the same week Henrik Stenson gain his first major too.
Presidents Days was held on Sunday 10th July, and Mr President himself (Ian Grimsditch) reported back to the pro shop it was a very successful day, capped off with relatively good weather… taking into consideration the deluge of rain we've received recently.
His thanks went to the Catering department (Dane Ludlow) and his staff, ourselves in the Pro Shop, John Pierrpoint and his team on the course and finally the Ladies section for their help with the scoring and the raffle.
Finally congratulations to Jamie on winning his first Major, it is overdue and we're sure there will be more along the way.
The Merson Mob was denied of top place in this years' Open Am Am. This time a visiting party from William Wroe Golf Club got the better of them with 92 points. The team made up of ex members' Lee, Matthew & Terry Merson with Darren Burgess as their final man.
Scoring proved to be slightly low in relation to recently years and taking into consideration the good weather we had on the day. Maybe the organisers (Iain Starkie) Pin positions had something to do with it.
The day attracted 37 teams from across Manchester which is annually played on the last day of The Open Championship.
Winners: William Wroe Seniors 92 points
Runner up: Merson Mob 89 points
3rd place: The Vice Squad 89 points
4th place: Members of the Board 89 points
5th place: Team Mac 89 points
6th place: The Odd Lot 88 points

Rules & Etiquette
I hear many golfers' blame the Greenkeeper for what is known as "crowning" of the hole. This occurs when the Hole is cut and removed from the ground. The lifting causes the edge of the hole to raise and makes holing a putt rather difficult. Or at least this is what people think...
In actually fact, the raising edge of a hole is caused majority of the time by YOU! When removing your ball from the hole, please keep your distance and use your full arm length. Standing too close to the hole causes a dip approximately 2-3ft away from the hole, then a sudden rise which acts like a crown.
Keep your eyes open on next weeks' newsletter for more etiquette tips.
The main cause of sprains
Weak ankles. That's what I hear. "I've always had weak ankles" people say to explain why they are hobbling around again. And weak ankles on Stamford Golf Course would be a disaster. Except in my experience, they're not always weak. They usually just have poor reflexes.
If you start going over on your ankle, and you quickly react, your ankle doesn't have to work hard to save you. If you react half a second later, it's already too late, you have built up momentum, you are already stretching those ligaments and the strongest ankle in the world isn't going to prevent it.
So, work on your reaction speed. Or, in simpler terms, balance. The better you are at balancing, you faster you react to Stamford's undulations, and you are less likely to hobble off the course.
Standing on one leg is the way to train this. And standing on one leg while doing something else is even better. Something that distracts you so the balance is entirely subconscious.
Balance while brushing your teeth. While waiting for the kettle to boil. Anything you can think of. Just practise balancing.
Sadly, balancing will not prevent you from that other comedy ankle injury - clipping your ankle with your putter while walking off the green. That's just you being stupid.
