Golf, a good walk..... Easter has come and gone, and too many chocolate eggs and hot cross buns are currently hanging over our belts. It's time to work off some calories.
Research done a few years ago in America and using a hilly course was done over 9 holes, but I'll double the results for a "real" players 18 holes.
Carrying your clubs, you will burn off, on average, 1442 calories. Using a push trolley, you will burn off 1436.
Sadly they skipped power trolleys, but looked at the American trend for golf carts instead, which still manages to burn off a healthy 822 calories.
Studies suggest that exercising to the tune of 2,500 calories a week makes a positive difference to your life expectancy, risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
So that's 2 rounds a week, to improve your life.
Next time someone asks you "Are you playing golf, again?" Just reply, "I'm doing it for medical reasons".

The Lombard Trophy is officially the UK's biggest pro-am with thousands of entrants from across the nation. Each club hold their qualifier with the leading scorer who enters, for the additional £2.00 on the day, partners their club pro in a memorable day out at the regional qualifier.

The Stamford Golf club qualifier will take place on Saturday 16th April alongside the April Monthly medal. On the day, you will be asked if you wish to enter the Lombard Trophy qualifier for an additional £2.00. For those who are unsure, ask last years' winner Russell Lodge about his experience.
