Easter Weekend
This coming weekend we will be staging a competition each day, including Friday and Monday. In recent years this competition weekend was better known as the Easter running competition, although, that has now changed in the interest of the competition itself. We now hold a separate event each day, with Friday being singles stableford, Saturday is Betterball stableford & Singles stableford, Sunday will be singles stableford alone, as will Monday also. Competition fees will remain the same at just £4 per person including the 2's competition.
Dunham Misery
We did face a rather tough task, although last year we did prove it was possible. Facing Bramhall Golf Club in the preliminary round of the Dunham Forest trophy away was never going to be easy. The 2013 finalists and 2014 winners fielded very low handicappers, with all Stamford lads receiving shots. The game was looking very tight around the middle of the field, but the result ended in a 6-1 defeat. Our only point came from iron man Andy Bent would you believe. That put a very sharp ending to our Dunham hopes for 2016 but we do still believe, one day, we will bring that trophy back to Stamford.
After all the blood, sweat & tears in the blistering cold winds and wet conditions, the Winter League really did provide a staggering finish to the season.
It did become a two horse race towards the end of the series, of which last year's winner Paul Traynor & Brian Thomas battled it out. In actual fact, they brought the final result down to the very last hole. Many of you will be aware of the outcome, as it captured the interest of many. Paul managed to nudge out Mr. Thomas to finish the series just two points ahead of Brian.
It is therefore back to back wins for the estate agent from Droylsden, who will see his name go up in the pro shop for a second time in two years.
Congratulations Paul
We have received some good feedback going forward with regards to developing the winter league, so watch this space with our ideas. Many thanks to all those who took part, and I am personally looking forward to next season already… Honest!
Summer Knockout
I would like to inform all of my readers, those of who are a member at Stamford. The Summer Knockout pairs entry list has been displayed in the clubhouse. If you would kindly enter yourself and your partner as soon as possible, the competitions chairman would be very grateful.
Lombard Qualifier
It with absolute great delight that I can inform you all, the Lomabard Qualifier will be taking place on Saturday 16th April. For those who are unaware of what this is. The Lombard qualifier is a qualification competition where the winner (of those who enter for an extra £2) will partner myself in a regional qualifier at Formby Golf Club. The winners of the regional Pro Am fly off to a luxurious golfing complex abroad to compete in the final amongst 116 other pairs.
Last year's winner of our qualifier Mr Russell Lodge will offer you any feedback you require after his thoroughly enjoyable experience at Formby.
NO MATS
Yes you read that one right. As from Monday 21st March the Fairway Mat rule has been rescinded, and play will therefore be from fairways. We will however be taking advantage of the Lift, Clean & Place rule until further notice, giving the course good time to through dry out from the wet winter we've had.
If you are unaware of any rulings, including Lift, clean & place, please pop your head into the pro shop for a detailed explanation.
Physio Chris...
Many apologies for last week's read, as it should've consisted of a spot from Chris Holloway our weekly physio writer. I would like to remind all my readers, Chris is now available for personal 1-2-1 physio sessions in the swing room on specified days, at extremely good prices. Should you require any more information, please contact me or Chris himself.
Golfers Elbow? Part 2
Last time, we talked about the muscles needed to prevent both golfers and tennis elbow.
For the muscle on the outside of the elbow, grip a food can, as shown in the diagram on the left and pull it up towards you. Repeat this 10 times for 3 sets. Follow up with the stretch on the right, holding the stretch for 15 seconds.
Doing this a few times a week should reduce your chance of getting Tennis elbow.
For the muscle on the inside of the elbow, it's the exact opposite, as shown below.
Doing both of these shouldn't take more than a few minutes, and should keep you on the course and away from the Physio Room!
