Darren Wright
Some of you may have seen a new face knocking around the Pro Shop recently. Darren Wright has been taking advantage of our recent development as a winter practice facility.
Once playing for the England elite squad playing off a handicap of +4.4, Darren has experienced the game of golf at the highest amateur level, winning the Carris Trophy as a junior in 2006, the men's Brabazon Trophy in 2010 and Welsh Strokeplay champion in 2011.
After turning Professional in 2011 Darren has competed on the Euro Pro tour where he managed to finish runner up in the Order of merit in 2015. This has gained him his Challenge tour card for 2016 season where you will be able to follow his results here.
Winter league update:
He's been knocking on the door recently and he's finally been answered. Chris Exton appears to be the man in form at the minute and posing as Brian Thomas' biggest threat in the winter league, as he closes in on pole position with two good weeks on the run.
Currently standing in 7th place and just 31 points behind 3rd place with 7 weeks of the winter league to play. Chris' form stood up to its pressure last weekend too, finishing in 2nd place in the winter league and seeing off ….two favourites in the winter knock out.

Manchester Alliance Matchplay Knock Out
The bad weather managed to cancel the third Manchester alliance off in a row this week. Scheduled to be playing at Crewe Golf Club, the inclement weather caused flooding and left us golf-less for the day. None the less, my Matchplay knock out had to be played before Monday 8th February and good old Stamford had stood up well to the rain/sleet & snow.
The draw had been kind enough to give me home advantage although Mark Pearson of Prestwich Golf Club would be no easy feat. A couple of short putts missed from myself in the early holes failed me from taking early advantage. Mark Managed to make an eagle 2 on the 7th hole to draw the game back to all square (winter green) but the angels were looking over me on 8 when I struck my 7 iron into the 8th hole (Rabbit) from 176 yards for it to finish straight in the hole. I replied back to his eagle with another eagle, and it was game on. I managed to close the game out on 17 after a string of 3 birdies, chipping in on 15 & 16 much to Marks disappointment. My 3&1 win sees me into round 2 against Northernden Professional Graham Neville with the draw for home advantage to be confirmed in a weeks' time.
The success of a recent application made by our current secretary Mr Guy Hall,

London Pride - Steward of the year
It is with great pride that we can announce an astonishing achievement from our very own Stewardess Miss Kirsty Glaister. Recently our secretary Mr Guy Hall applied for the "Fullers - London Pride Golf Club Steward of the year award" on behalf of Kirsty.
His application made a shortlist of three stewards, all from this region. After an interview with each regional finalist, the conclusion went in favour of our very own Steward making her the North West of England best Golf Club Steward for 2015. Kirsty will now be taking part in the national final between just four finalists on February 11th 2016.

Good luck Kirsty, the club are extremely proud of you.
