Well it's been a long break for the majority. It's time to pay attention to the day of the week and time of the day. For me the break is well deserved, the summer months are long days and it's a well-earned rest. Right now though, I'm keen to see the Masters. Those stripy fairways and coloured flower beds of Augusta really do get me and most golfers into the mood for a game. 93 days to go as I write this! What are you most looking forward to in the golfing world in 2016? Let me know here. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a most successful season ahead for 2016, one filled with holes in one, Majors and many birdies.
At the club It's been a season of mixed emotions, with the passing of two very well respected members. Alan Hartle passed away last month and the most recent loss being Mr. Bill Ricardo.
The long standing Hon. Life member passed away just before Christmas. Bill joined the club in 1971 and served on a variety of committees and eventually as club secretary. He captained the club in 1985, served as president in the clubs centenary year 2001. He also served as Chairman of the past captains association for many years up to his passing.
Bill was a great character and I doubt if there were many members who did not feel the wrath of Ricardo at some point. Although Bill did not hold grudges and was a great member who helped the club to be where it is today. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Bills funeral will be held at St Vincent De Paul RC church, Norden, Caldershaw road on Thursday 7th January at 12:45. Following this there will be refreshments at Rochdale Golf Club. His family have requested no flowers, donations to the junior section of Stamford Golf Club would be appreciated.
Christmas Day.
We all know the procedure of Christmas Day at Stamford Golf Club, a tradition that has stood for many years.
The new vice-captain elect for the coming season is announced and to many there was a pleasant surprise.
Congratulations to Mr. Andy Yeardly, he will hopefully be serving as vice captain from February 2016.
Andy I wish you all the success in your year as captain.
Stamford arms Golf Society.
Congratulations to Dave Allen over the Xmas holidays. Dave participated in the ongoing Stamford Arms golf society organised by Phil Ramsden. It was a barrel of laughs at the presentation as Paul Traynor thought his 45 points was good enough to top the leader board. Collecting his nearest the pin prize, he gave his words "I'll save my speech for in a minute because I've won". Little did he know Dave Allen was last off the course with 46 points!
High five Dave!
